FileMaker Pro 6.0 – Mac Review

Greetings Amazon reviewers ..

Now that you have read the Microsoft commercial below:
Author: A software user from Stratford, CT USA "
What then, "needs a kick in the pants!"

Here is the truth, this product meets the requirements for the implementation of a network client / server database easier than anything currently on the market! And the client / server features are built! It does not matter if it is based on PC or Mac Furthermore, once designed and implemented, work willwell with both platforms in the network. Furthermore, after extensive research a client's insurance I had just finished designing a relational database management system (RDBMS) for this by far the cheapest option, especially when compared to Microsoft. In addition, you have the head lower (hardware / software requirements) than any of his ability on the market. You can use this reference system (with features) on its websiteThis is really a lot of information. These minimum standards in mind that most of the systems under / owners can easily these days:
(compare these minimum requirements for the latest version of Microsoft Access or other database for that matter)

PC
• Intel-compatible Pentium 90 MHz or higher
? 32 MB of RAM (or more)
· Windows 98, Me, NT4 (SP6), 2000, XP

Mac
Power Mac or higher
? 32 MB of RAM
· OS 8,6-9,22

Mac OS X
• Apple G3 or higher
·128 MB of RAM
· OS X 10.1

The customer was designing for my old PC with Microsoft Windows 98SE. Obviously I have the PC version of the software, which is very similar to the version for Mac When I decided to open a Microsoft "solution" would be to modernize involving not only the hardware but also operating systems for implementation. Since the cost of copies of access (some licenses) not exactly cheap or if you have not faced in recent times. FoxPro is not just better, worse than SQL Server.Especially in a client-server paradigm of design!

Bottom Line, a fully customized relational database designed and developed a network as soon as possible with minimum cost to the owners the use of any new hardware or operating system () and working conditions for the initial installation until today with the minimal database administration. Fully compatible with both PC or Mac on the network and future operating system updates on both platforms. Personally, I'm happy and I know that business is a highlyhappy. Win-win situation ..

One thing I found is very nice, you can see down a 30-day trial version of FileMaker Pro based software on their website to see if it is possible to meet your needs – certainly met a nice gesture. (filemaker.com)

FileMaker Pro 6.0 – Mac Overview

FileMaker Pro 6.0 makes data management for individuals and small groups engaging and almost fun. Installation and setup are both surprisingly quick and easy, and the templates and wizards will have most users frolicking with their new or imported databases in just a couple of hours. The interface and design tools are comfortable for Windows users of all levels of experience. The software is not designed for the lowest common denominator, though–advanced users will find FileMaker Pro’s scripting language for queries and other tasks handy, if not all-powerful.

Data entry couldn’t be easier. For some formats, it’s as simple as dragging and dropping folder contents, so multimedia management, for example, becomes almost trivial. FileMaker Pro’s data manipulation tools are more powerful than before, which means administrators would do well to limit users or train them carefully. Searches, the meat of the package, are simple enough for beginners but offer enough complexity to keep power users happy. One new timesaving search feature is the extend/constrain function: if a search returns too few or too many results, it takes just one step to expand or contract search parameters.

Web-style integration in FileMaker Pro 6.0 has taken a huge step forward from version 5.5; the look and feel of the desktop is almost seamlessly translated to intranet application. However, those with more than 10 potential FileMaker users should pick up the unlimited-use version of the software. FileMaker can import and export XML, so data can be manipulated and then easily shared with non-users via a Web browser.

While there might be more powerful data management packages available, for a wide range of uses and users, FileMaker Pro 6.0 is tough to beat. –Rob Lightner

My most important software package – Jamey Key – Dallas, TX USA
Our company started using FileMaker since 1989. Since this is the only database I've ever used (except for a brief experiment with 4D) I can not compare with anything else. I am here to tell you, will try to do the job.

I do not use techno-speak in my review, I'm here for beginners (and identify all those who read a review, if this software is for them) is probably a beginner. FileMaker keep an eye on your business information. Even if you're a one-person enterpriseswill work for you. If there are 100 employees on the payroll, you continue to work for you. If you've never designed a database before, you can do.

Now you have to spend some 'time to learn the software, but if you manage a database, you're going to do some maintenance anyway. With FileMaker, you can start the database the first day, then add features later as a record of more and more users. I recommend learning how FileMakerYour project for a developer environment for the simple fact that you know your business better and you will always reflect these changes as changes in business, though. My philosophy is that it is better for you to learn how FileMaker developer to know your business.

Go ahead and do it. You can make beautiful, powerful database, if you take the time to learn too. This product will do the job. I guarantee it. Please contact me and I'll help.

Fantastically Versatile Program! – Paul Dobbertin – Chicago, IL USA
In order to compare with FileMaker Pro Access is absurd.

While FileMaker is not the size of MySQL and Oracle in terms of speed and power, is much more flexible and much less expensive than anything in this class of applications for any Windows or Macintosh.

You can start small, with only one or two computers and grow your solution to a completely server-based and remotely managed applications. And if you happen to need to migrate to the iron "big" typeDatabase, one day, like MySQL, conversion tools available that most of such a migration should be automatic – including scripting. There are also a variety of third-party plug-ins, all other functions on the road.

Import and export of data is a breeze in virtually any format. As regards the exchange of data FileMaker is unmatched, and includes a small web server function next to the "Instant Web Publishing feature.

It's an absolutely wonderfulTool for any serious IT person who is not threatened by a program that most people can not understand them.

Outstanding. More than most people need. – Akimo – San Jose, CA
I Databse with very large (over 500 tables in Oracle and Sybase worked) and the very small. If you are assessed to find a DB implementation for less than $ 50,000, the first product should FileMaker. It is likely (to do everything and more) that you need. Who says an MS Access or FileMaker lighter and more reliable is Microsoft or other interference unnecessary. Ask your users and / or developer of database to show the two products, andsee a huge difference. Crude oil for access and those who are susceptible to decontamination work frequently. FileMaker those who are capable of clean, reliable and flexible.

If you do not need the great power of the guns (Oracle, Sybase, IBM), FileMaker ignore at their peril.
